fridge voyeur

The lovely Cate over there at Sweetnicks is putting on a "show me yours i'll show you mine" fridge voyeur fun day and being the nosey person i am, i had to join in on the fun...cause what fun is it to spend the day staring in other peoples fridges and not show my own?

3 things i always have in my fridge/freezer -- SALMON, WATER, VEGETABLES of all varieties. I just cant live without these 3 things :)

What i never have? stuff i need at the last minute, usually fresh herbs because they always seem to go bad on me when im not looking. I do try though!

top shelf. italian -italiaans- dressing, sundried tomato -zongedroogde tomaat- dressins, fresh coriander -koriander-, fresh basil -basilicum-, teriyaki sauce, sweet and sour -zoetzuur- sauce, curry -kerrie- sauce, teriyaki marinade

2nd shelf all sorts of light (reduced sugar) jams, i find the regular ones WAY too sweet.
grainy mustard -kühne mosterd-, roasted peppers -geroosterde paprikas- in olive oil, mango chutney, frites lijn which is mayo but much lower in calories.
Im holding krieltjes which are tiny firm bite sized potatoes. Dutch love aardappelen ;)

3rd shelf. in the basket is goats cheese -geitenkaas-, smoked hams -gerookte ham-, turkey -kalkoen-. philadelphia light with chives, gravy in the back -vlees jus-, ricotta, cottage cheese -hütten käse-, kwark (English is quark/creme fraiche i believe). im holding a chunk of watermelon -watermeloen- cause it was in the way

4th shelf. in the very back left corner is 4 cooked and vacuum packed beets -bieten-, in front are fresh raspberries -frambozen-, sprout trio --alfalfa, leek sprouts, beet sprouts-- im holding asparagus shoots , fresh strawberries -aardbeien-

more fresh strawberries -1kg in total, i love them-,little activia prune yoghurts, im holding Danish feta -- its lower fat/salt than Greek feta but sometimes i prefer the real stuff.

the chickpea spread -kikkererwten- i made last night, yellow lions cherry tomatoes, red cherry tomatoes. steak -runderlappen-, pork -varkenshaas-, 2 packs of chicken -kipfilet-

1st veggie crisper. red & orange peppers paprikas-, white asparagus -witte asperges-, baby green asparagus -groen asperges, chinese cabbbage - chinese kool-

chestnut mushrooms -kastanje champignons-, roma tomatoes -tomaten-, more orange peppers, kohlrabi & broccoli

i keep my ginger -gember- up top. green olives -groene olijven- too

10 verse scharreleieren - 10 fresh free-range eggs & 1 lonely boiled egg on the side which has been there for way way too long!

baking soda that i found at the restaurant supplier, sunflower seeds -zonnepitten-, pumpkin seeds -pompoenpitten-, brazil nuts -paranoten-

from left-right: maple syrup -ahornsiroop-, heinz ketchup, halffat milk -halfvollemelk- (for cereal), skim milk -magermelk- (for smoothies & iced coffee drinks), HP steak sauce

Other fridge!

The rest of the watermelon, mad sauce for frites, cloudy apple juice, more halffat milk

all my water, i drink 1-3 litres per day otherwise i shrivel up and pass out or speak in weird dialects

easy fish dinners to steam in the microwave or bake in the oven...surimi sticks, ancient prawns which i cant seem to throw out in the hope that i might someday start liking them again

salmon -zalm- supplies.... also a box of portioned game. kangaroo -kangaroe-, ostrich -struisvogel-, antilope all mixed together

a bag of frozen peas -erwten- in the back, ostrich carpaccio -struisvogel carpaccio-, mackerel -mackreel- too

Well that was fun! You're not seeing my fridge though :-P

What are those asparagus shoots like? And why do you have so many shoots? Weird :-)

Naz, come on it would be fun! the asparagus shoots taste a lot like bean sprouts, crunchy, mild, watery fresh...quite nice :) And i have a lot because i like to put them on sandwiches

Jeff, it is indeed pretty full. While the American sized fridge is catching on in popularity around here, most of us still have the average sized built ins and things like a kilo of strawberries takes up most of the space lol
Enjoy the birthday party!!

Kwark? I'm not familar with that name. The international twist on some brand name products is interesting.
